Snowflakes and gingerbread cookies

The scene from my bedroom window Saturday soothed me into a feeling of peace. The freshly fallen snow on my front yard and lining the branches of the tall oak tree was picturesque in its beauty. I was content to stay in the house and do a little more Christmas decorating as the snowflakes fell all day.

Staying in the house, however, meant eating more sweets than I have in weeks.  My daughter and a friend who was visiting made gingerbread cookies and brownies that were hard to resist. Between those and the chocolate covered raisins I kept noshing on, my Melt the Middle regiment fell by the way, dare I say, waist-side.  I knew that the days leading up to Christmas would be difficult so I gave myself permission to enjoy my guilty pleasures without guilt.

I tried to work off some of those extra calories by getting out Sunday and helping my husband clean the snow off the steps, sidewalks and the cars. My efforts couldn’t have yielded much results but it was great to be outside in the invigorating air.
