A victory for same-sex marriage in D.C.

The D.C. Council voted yesterday to approve same-sex marriage in the nation’s capital, bringing the measure one step closer to becoming law. Gay and lesbian activists, joined by a coalition of black religious leaders, claimed the 11-2 vote as a long-fought victory of marriage equality and civil rights.
Meanwhile, a group of opposing black preachers said that only Congress or the courts can thwart efforts to legalize same- sex marriage. They say that such marriages go against the word of God that declares that the sacred union outlined in the Bible is between a man and woman.
I’m in the process of blogging about this subject but wanted to stop and get your thoughts.
