Faith-filled, breathless moments

While shopping with my college-bound daughter in a  Bed, Bath & Beyond store, this quote on a large wall hanging caught my attention:

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the number of moments that take our breath away.

It reminded me of how important it is to be present in the moment and to stay alert to the miracles unfolding before me. I don’t want to miss those occurances — both planned and spontaneous– that cause me to pause and gasp in amazement or simply to stop and meditate on the beauty of life.

You know what I mean, don’t you? A baby’s entrance into the world. Sunrise on a beach.   Sunset shared with a special someone. Fireflies twinkling in the backyard on a summer’s night. A surprise visit from an dear old friend. The view from a mountaintop.

Or the butterfly that darted about as a friend and I took our early morning walk recently along a wooded trail. “Late bloomer,” she said without missing a step as she spotted the yellow and black swallowtail.

Right on time, I thought as I marveled at one of my favorite heavenly creatures. Right on time.IMGP0321

Have you experienced any breath-taking moments lately? I would love to hear about them.
